Like I said in the FotR thread, the changes to Faramir. What I hated about it was that Tolkien is the genius behind LotR, and while PJ did a great job with the movies, they shouldn't have changed Faramir the way they did. I remember in the interviews on the TT bonus disc, Phillipa Boyens( I think) said that they changed the way he was at first because there is no way he could have resisted the ring and they felt it was more realistic to have Faramir first try to keep it. (Can't remember exact words) I think Tolkien knew what he was doing with Faramir and they shouldn't have messed with that.

as much as i loved the helms deep scene... i can't stand the fact that in the book nobody came to help but yet in the movies PJ came up with the idea to bring Elves to help... i don't understand why he would do that

Oh Don't get me started on Helm's Deep LOL
The things that drive me crazy about Helm's Deep are like you said the elves weren't suppose to be there and therefore Haldir didn't die. I have gotten used to the elves being there and it doesn't bother me that much anymore. Eomer was suppose to be there. Eomer's part in the movies was cut so much, the friendship he had with Aragorn is barely present and the friendship with Gimli isn't there at all. I am so glad they didn't add Arwen in battle gear fighting at Helm's Deep though. They intended to and even had Liv take sword fighting classes, but decided to leave it out after all. Thank God for that. lol ;D

Maybe He Wanted to Involve the Elves More...
They're Not In Any War Scenes, Barely. And He Probably Wanted to Show the Audience This Glorious Race Dying.

I just wanna see if anyone else here agrees with me. This may be only for those who have read the books.
Was anyone else disappointed with the portrayal of Faramir? I felt that they cast a very negative light on a character that was far from negative. They made him seem corrupted and only interested in the ring when he actually said he wouldn't take the ring even if it was laying on the side of the road. Also, Faramir and the rangers never took Frodo and Sam to Osgiliath and he never actually took them prisoner at all.
Does this bother anyone else?

Welcome to Fallen Tears poet, glad to meet you. Yes, the changes to Faramir bothered me greatly, I think I spoke about it a bit in the above old posts. I seem to remember somewhere in the commentary or bonus features of the disc that PJ and team decided that Faramir refusing the lure of the ring wasn't natural. That no man could refuse and that it was more natural the way they decided to do the scenes. Not exact words of course, it has been years since I saw that bit. Faramir should have been left the way Tolkien envisioned him.

Oops! I apologize! I didn't see your earlier post.
But I agree, he should have been left to the original vision. I feel that Faramir's heart put him in a position so that he could indeed refuse the ring. He had no intention of taking it and he did not seem to want any type of fame or glory.
PJ did do a great job with the movies but the changes are almost too dificult to look past sometimes.

Yes, the changes are hard to bear sometimes but I try to look at them like two different things so it dosen't bother me so much.
