Yeah that's true, his character wasn't necessary to the story or the outcome, easy to cut out. I also missed that they didn't have Glorfindel and gave Arwen his part. But I also understand why that was done too.

yeah i was a little upset over Glorfindel not showing up and them using Arwen instead.... what was the real reason behind that?

I don't know the official reason, but I would suppose it was to develop Arwen's character more. She isn't really present much in the books,(other than the Tale of Aragorn and Arwen). Don't know, I might have to watch the bonus discs on FotR to see if they say anything about it there. Plus that is pretty much the only part that Glorfindel is in, so he was easily cut too.

i just don't understand the fact that yeah Arwen doesn't play a major roll in the books, but they make it to be such a big thing in the movies... i can understand that yeah Glorfindel is easily cut, but quite personally i would have liked to have seen that part stick to the book a little better...

I would have loved many parts to stick to the book a little better. Glorfindel is definitely one of them. I think the changes to Faramir bothered me the most, but that is a discussion for the Two Towers thread.

I definitely think that Tom Bombadil, Goldberry, and the Barrow Wights should have been left in. Those parts are two of the most creative and amazing parts of any fantasy I've ever read. They definitely should have been in there!

Yes those characters would have been amazing to see it the film. Unfortunately, they are easy to remove because they aren't crucial to the rest of the story. But it definitely would have been great to see them.
